Hurricane Expert Threatened for Pre-Katrina Warnings
DON'T blame the Lady. Katrina killed no one in this town. In fact, Katrina missed the city completely, going wide to the east.
It wasn't the hurricane that drowned, suffocated, de-hydrated and starved 1,500 people that week. The killing was done by a deadly duo: a failed emergency evacuation plan combined with faulty levees. Behind these twin failures lies a tale of cronyism, profiteering and willful incompetence that takes us right to the steps of the White House. Greg Palast, OpEd News

Katrina survivor to praise Bush on Katrina, omitted that he's a Republican Businessman
Vaccarella -- who, as Bunch reported, was listed in his 1999 candidate profile as director of operations for a company that operated 31 Pizza Hut restaurants -- towed a "mock but realistic-looking" version of the trailer issued to him and his family after the hurricane by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) from Louisiana to Washington with the intention of cooking a meal of "shrimp and redfish and other good food" for Bush inside the trailer. According to the Times-Picayune, Vaccarella instead met with the president in a private session. Media Matters

"Spike Lee Does the Right Thing"
"When the Levees Broke: a Requiem in Four Acts"
Accompanied by the haunting melodies of jazz musician Terrence Blanchard, Lee tells one of America's most tragic episodes with mostly pictures and the words of victims. Several notable exceptions such as the Rev. Al Sharpton, social critic Michael Eric Dyson, and actor Harry Belafonte also graced the screen. But I question whether their contributions provided significant added value. Byron Williams, Huffington Post
Some Comments From HuffPo Readers:
"Spike Lee's documentary brilliantly captured the layers of humanity involved in this tragic -- and criminally mishandled -- catastrophe."
"I watched last night and I couldn't even speak when it was over. My soul was bleeding. I knew of the the horrible neglect after the levees broke, but to hear it from some of the victims brought it home like a sword being thrust through my heart. I'm not trying to be a drama queen, that's just how I felt."
"Great show, riveting Mr Lee did a fantastic job of story telling.. Especially getting the fmr Police Chief to admitt to starting false rumors..."

Katrina's Bulldozer Politics
The one-year anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, August 29, should be a day to remember our commitments to our fellow Americans and mourn our collective losses. It should be an opportunity to reflect on what we as American citizens expect from our government in our most dire hour of need. It should be a time to honor the courage of the hundreds of thousands of still-displaced Katrina survivors as they struggle to return home one year after the storm broke land.
But instead, New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin and the city council have callously chosen the anniversary to begin a policy that will demolish what little hope displaced families have of returning to their city. Stephen Bradberry and Jeffrey Buchanan
